Witmos
Oxwagon camp site was carefully chosen as a base for eco tourism, set
among scattered thorn bushes in a basin among high mountains and cliffs.
Enjoy hiking, game drives or just a relaxing away from the bright
lights. Witmoskloof is home to the black eagles, a plethora
of
other birds and several game species. The bird life is endless and 49
species were spotted within an hour on a recent bird watch hike.
Guests
have the freedom of exploring a 25 000 ha conservancy formed by four
district farmers.
We
do offer game drives on arrangement. We
also offer 4X4 Routes, mountain bike trails, walking trails, and trout
and fly fishing in close proximity. On the game drives expect to see
Kudu, Mountain Rheedbuck, Zebra, Eland, Red hartebeest, Blue and Black
Wildebeest, Bushbuck, Impala, and other small antelope.
I n
the eveings sit in comfy chairs around our crackling fire, or experience
our boma where under the star-studded African night sky you can listen
to the roar of the fire and the music of the African night bush.
Indoor
entertainment includes puzzle and board games for children and adults
(in the true tradition of the unique way of life of the early settlers -
before the bright lights and television!)
The
beautiful Mountain Zebra Park is 90 km away (less than an hour). Also in
close proximity are the Addo Elephant park, the Valley of Desolation
(Graaff-Reinet), the 1820 Settler Monument (Grahamstown) and for the
die-hard must-have-lights person, the Coastal city of Port Elizabeth.
A
central building "The Wagon House" constitutes the heart of
the camp. It is stunningly furnished to fit the entire theme. Here one
can enjoy traditional meals at the 16-seater yellowood table, fashioned
by your hosts. On the menu: Homemade bread and vetkoek, potjiekos, liver
in niervet, kudu fillet and other game dishes. Best of all... Ouma
Hanna's melktert!
